The Wellness Community: Leader in Cancer Support, Education and Hope

African American Women's Cancer Support Group flier

The Wellness Community (TWC) recently marked its 26th anniversary as an international non-profit organization dedicated to providing free support, education and hope to people with cancer and their loved ones. Through participation in professionally-led support groups, educational workshops, exercise, mind/body classes, and social networking, people whose lives have been touched by cancer will learn vital skills that enable them to regain control, reduce isolation, restore hope and increase vitality regardless of the stage or status of the disease.

The Wellness Community provides support groups, lectures by renowned oncology professionals, workshops in the arts, nutrition and complementary therapies, and classes in programs such as yoga, tai chi, visualization, meditation and physical fitness.  All TWC programs are based on the Patient Active Concept which states, "People who participate in their fight for recovery along with their health care team, will improve the quality of their lives and may enhance the possibility of recovery."

Our research-proven programs empower patients, caregivers and loved ones to make active choices in their recovery and reduce the three most significant psychosocial stressors that people with cancer face: unwanted aloneness, a loss of control, and a loss of hope.  All TWC programs are free of charge and are offered at over 100 locations worldwide, including 24 U.S. based and two international centers, and online at www.thewellnesscommunity.org.
